Bad back pain!
need some advice please people.....

was moving boxes of stuff yesterday. went to pick up a box, not heavy, and BANG!

unbelievable pain right in spine in lower back.
I'm talking real bad. went down and couldn't move.

laid still for a while and was eventually able to get up just about, but it's still bad.

constant dull pain and then, every now and then, i'll move 'wrong' and SEVERE bolt of pain in same place!

I clearly need to see someone urgently this morning, but never had back problem before, so I have no idea what to do.

what's the difference between an osteopath/chiropractor/physio......and which should I be heading for?

what's the differenc

I Just remembered I was seeing a Osteopath doctor in Malaysia , had scan ect (Company paid) he offered me some drugs what were originally made for epilepsy but their affect on some nerves for in the spinal chord and give lasting pain relief. The doctor said take them at night because the some savage side effects,(Out of your nut apparently) He gave me 40 tablets , but I never took any of them sounded a bit Phototropic to me

Re: Bad back pain!
Joe 2 months ago I couldn't walk , Hospital in a fucking wheel chair , they wanted to give cortisone injection in my spine in a coupe of days time. They gave me Morphine tablet to pass the time. I went home and read about it. Apparently extremely painful and not guaranteed to work. So I started looking chiropractor site with stretches for sciatica. Made good sense what the bloke was saying , stretch you forward pelvis which open-sup space in your back , ice every 2 hours and arcoxia. I went from being crippled to able to walk around the shops in about 4 days. Problem is here its difficult to get the 120mg. I only take them now if I wake with the dreaded stiff back

Re: Bad back pain!
Jonesy, it sounds like you pulled a muscle in your back. What happens then is that sore muscle then pulls your spinal column out of your normal alignment and this causes the discomfort. Rest up and take pain killers and all should be well in a few days. What also helps is sleeping on the floor. It seems odd and uncomfortable at first but believe you me it works.

Never go straight to an Oste or Chiro as first choice because they are high order charlatans. An experienced physio is a better choice because they are soft tissue experts and most sudden back problems are muscular.

As has been mentioned on here people subject to muscular back spasms etc. can mitigate the likelihood of strains by regular physio designed exercises. It works for me.

Re: Bad back pain!
I had diazepam as well (it is to stop muscle spasms) and naproxen.
Can't remember the diazepam dose but I really HAD to go to bed once that kicked in.

Re: Bad back pain!
You have my sympathies.

I got fouled while taking my turn in goal (not my favourite position, even before), back went into spasm, and I couldn't play for 21 months.

For the first 18 months, I couldn't even walk for more than 15 minutes, and there was no sign of any improvement.

The good news is that an almost complete recovery is possible.

PS Tramadol made me sleep a lot and made doing anything requiring concentration almost impossible. Diazepam was much better

Re: Bad back pain!
I did similar first time i was prescribed them. I had a total of 45 mg. Took the first one as prescribed which did nothing for me.

Crushed the 40mg up and took the lot. That eased the pain :)

Re: Bad back pain!
well, I am at work, so maybe just 5 for now

I took 30mg on a flight to south Africa once after 4 hours at the bar.....that certainly hit the spot!

Re: Bad back pain!
Did they fob you off with the 5mg diazepam?

Not worth a wank. You need the 10mg minimum.

Re: Bad back pain!

diazepam, diclofenic, omeprazole, paracetamol and codeine.

Re: Bad back pain!
I use arcoxia . tramadol just gave me really weird dreams

Odd fact that most people don't know it's too lie on your front for 20 mins a day

That is an excellent relief

Re: Bad back pain!
Arcoxia , it is an anti-inflammatory medicine for arthritis , sciatica ect. Ok for long term use as it does not tear you guts up like other anti-inflammatorys

Re: Bad back pain!
Go see ex West Ham Physio John Green. Based our of Romford or Marble Arch...not cheap, but as good a care/treatment as you'll get, and if he can't see you deals only with a top class back surgeon.

Google him for contact details. My mate is seeing him now after seeing and NHS clown for 6 months with no improvement.

When he told Green what the Physio had got him doing was told the NHS guy had been contributing to his back taking longer to improve.

You have my deepest sympathy Jonesy - it's evil!

I am currently undergoing treatment through this physio; http://www.sarahkeyphysiotherapy.com/#axzz3ZsS5wCte and I feel I am on the right track after 20 odd years of lower back pain.

Good luck!

Re: Bad back pain!
My back went playing squash once, but I was winning and so didn't want to stop, so made my mate do a trick I'd learnt off of the osteopath to click it and give myself the instant relief I knew would flood back through me.

Still fucked 6 years later, so basically don't be a knob head like me and get it seen to.

Will never be perfect again, but nothing worse than a shafted back as can make the general crap like sitting in a chair and sleeping a nightmare.

And as stated, the physio/asteopath will do some wonderful things that give instant relief, but you can guarantee it's a relief that will be gone before the day or week is out. The snapping your head to release the built up gas in your neck and spine or whatever it is, is bloody heaven.

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!

it's a private GP in the city. god knows if they're any good or how they deal with this kinda thing, but it's the dr my company use.

no doubt will be fobbed off with a pack of nurofen!

Re: Bad back pain!
"Palmed off with tramadol"? Fuck me I was flying with that stuff. If you want something stronger than tramadol then you must be the victim of Nazi style human experimentation.

Dave Lister 11:36 Tue May 26
Re: Bad back pain!
Go to docs, do not be palmed off with Tramadol, codeine or anti-immfamatories. You want break through pain relief of oxycodone (so you can stay mobile which is a great help), Valium for muscle relaxant and a strong anti-immflamatory like Celebrex.

Physio is a great help in the early days but soon is a case of diminishing returns.

This was worked for me. Before this the pain was excruciating and I needed my wife even to get out of bed.

After this just build up core strength and practice good lifting techniques.

Re: BAD BACK PAIN!
Never had what I'd call a proper back problem but last 6 months I've been getting lower back ache which is from sitting a desk for the last 10 years.

As Dan M said, chiropractor is helping me massively. Wen't before work today as it goes and feel really good.

I'm reaching a point where it feels more comfortable to sit with good posture rather than slouching.
